2nd grade teacher and & loving it! I have been teaching for 7 years. I also enjoy educating others on how to incorporate essential oils into their daily lives!
LOVES: my family, teaching, educational technology, singing, acting, blogging, blog-stalking, reading, and watching t.v.
Last week was our first week in 2nd grade, and we had a blast!
One of the fun "getting to know you" activities we did was to create "human circle maps" to tell about ourselves.
It was fun for me to see who prefers drawing and who prefers to use words. I love how we are all so different and have different talents, interests, and things we're passionate about.
Yesterday, along with Mrs. McCown's class, we released our caterpillars turned butterflies into the wild! It was so neat for us to see the caterpillars make their way to the top of their container, build their cocoons, and then transform into butterflies! I am working on uploading a video of the butterflies being released, so check back soon! Here are some photos of our butterflies:
Here are a few photos from 2A's Snack Factory assembly line.
We had different assembly line "workers" creating 4 different snacks: mini-pizzas, mini tacos, cookies, and trail mix. The students had a blast and worked very hard, following all their instructions and working well with their teammates! What a fun way for us to learn about the value of factory assembly lines.
Please click the link below to visit our poll on Poll Everywhere.com. Please follow the directions on the screen to vote for the charity that you think should receive our donation from the Bazaar profits.
There are so many worthy organizations that are fighting to better our country and our world. I have narrowed it down to some great choices for our students to vote on--we will donate the profits from our sales at this year's 2nd Grade Bazaar (Flea Market) to the winner of our poll.
Here is some information about each of the charities we will be choosing from:
World Wildlife Fund - fighting to protect endangered animals American Red Cross: North Texas Region - provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Coppell Humane Society - a foster home organization that keeps the animals until they find their forever homes, no matter how long that takes Ocean Conservancy - brings people together to find solutions for our water planet, protecting the ocean and its wildlife for future generations
Students: click on the link below to visit our Today's Meet site, where you will share with your classmates which charity you think we should donate to, and why you think so. We will then vote! TODAY'S MEET: 2A DONATION
Many of our reading groups have been reading books about space, the moon, and other topics about our solar system. Our "Seagulls" reading group just finished up a book on Space today, and since we read about the Hubble telescope, Mrs. O'Bryan researched online and found its official website!
This link will take you to the photo gallery for some AMAZING photos the Hubble has taken:
I accidentally came across this App on our iPads, and it is my new favorite!! (Thanks to Rozena, who had me searching out Apps we could use to work on our writing!)
We had so much fun creating our own Sock Puppet shows about Needs vs. Wants on our iPads, and we even taught our Kinder Buddies how to do it!
In this project, each student independently chose his/her sock puppet characters, designed their "set" and performed the dialogue between both characters. They only have 30 seconds to record, and if they mess up, they have to start all over, so you can imagine it can be a time-consuming process! :)
I am including all the puppet shows that were finished; if your child's doesn't appear, please tell him/her to finish it during Daily 5 so I can upload it!
