I'm sure your kiddos told you about their experience as a U.S. Immigrant traveling to America on a ship across the Atlantic, but here are the pictures to prove it! 100th Day Fun!

We had a blast on our 100th day of school in 2nd grade.

I was so sad that we had several students out sick--we missed them and wish they could have been there with us.

Penguin Love

 Mrs. Cockrell LOVES penguins, and when she was out sick the week that we were supposed to study them, she was so sad!  We HAD to learn about penguins, so we did it the following week!  We read a lot of books, watched a lot of videos, read magazines, checked out Nat Geo Kids, and more.  We are definitely learning about all the places you can go to find out information about a topic.  This is great for our upcoming research project that you'll hear more about very soon!  :)

They did really well putting their facts into complete sentences.  We are working up to writing paragraphs that flow, using a topic sentence and closing sentence.  2nd grade is a big year for writing growth!  Trying to get them prepared for all the writing in 3rd!  

Thanks for checking out all our hard work.  Not all the students wanted their pictures on our blog, but I hope you were able to see their awesome work when they brought home their projects.

Flipped Lesson: Planting Seeds

Students, please view the video below for information and materials needed to plant seeds.

You will be responsible for following the steps and planting your own seeds in a plastic cup or container (such as an empty yogurt or jello container).  You may plant the seeds from the baggie you were given at school, or you may use seeds from home (maybe seeds from fruit your family eats?).

If you need help, ask a parent, but you should be doing the work.

After planting your seeds, you will need to provide your seed with the things it will need to grow and survive.

You will bring your cup/sprout with you to school on:

Our lesson on multiplying 2 digit x 1 digit numbers!

Please take a few minutes to watch our video of when we learned how to multiply 2 digit by 1 digit numbers. We learned 2 different ways, so take your pick as to which way is easier for you.

Rounding to the nearest ten & hundred: Video Lesson

Today we used the Smart Recorder on our Smartboard. This feature is probably (in my opinion) one of the coolest things our Smartboard does! You definitely need to watch it (or just part of it) to see how neat it is!

Below is a video we created on our Smartboard today of our lesson on how to round to the nearest ten and nearest hundred. This is a great thing for your child to watch to review the rules of rounding (estimating).
